ABOUT ROY LI
Embarking on a musical journey that resonates with passion and dedication, Roy Li, the virtuoso clarinetist, cultivated his craft at the Adelaide Elder Conservatorium under the esteemed Dean Newcomb, Principal of the ASO, until the transformative year of 2016. Seeking new horizons, he then set his sights on Sydney, delving deeper into the world of clarinet mastery at the Sydney Conservatorium under the guidance of luminaries Susan Newsome and Frank Celata.
Roy's melodic prowess knows no bounds, as he has graced stages both in Australia and beyond, performing as both a soloist and a dynamic orchestral clarinetist. His repertoire spans noteworthy ensembles, including the Conservatorium Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra, the Modern Music Ensemble, the Modest Orchestra, and the Lismore Conservatorium Orchestra. The echoes of his clarinet have reverberated internationally, as evidenced by his participation in the World Music Festival in 2019 with the prestigious Sinfonia Australia.
Not content with merely playing the notes, Roy has ascended to the role of Principal Clarinet in the Modern Music Ensemble, showcasing not only his technical prowess but also his leadership in shaping musical narratives. His commitment to global musical dialogue is evident through his participation in master classes led by luminaries such as Professor Janet Hilton, Andrew Marriner, and Sabine Meyer, further enriching his musical palette.
Beyond the stage, Roy Li is a pedagogue par excellence, boasting over a decade of teaching experience that encompasses the intricacies of Clarinet and Saxophone pedagogy. His expertise extends to conducting chamber ensembles and concert bands, as well as mentoring in orchestral and chamber music. His teaching footprint extends from the hallowed halls of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to the Lismore Conservatorium of Music, Caringbah High School, Gordon West PS, Sydney Catholic School, and beyond.
In the transformative year of 2020, Roy Li's commitment to music education soared to unprecedented levels with the establishment of the Delicato Music Academy. Functioning as the epicenter of his educational initiatives, this academy has evolved into a haven for aspiring musicians, offering instrumental instruction and music theory education tailored for students ranging from kindergarten to year 12. Additionally, Roy assumes the role of the band director within the Sydney Catholic Schools System, shaping the musical landscape for the next generation. As a testament to his orchestral finesse, he graces the role of a guest conductor at the Sunshine Phil Youth Orchestra.
Adding to the crescendo of his life's symphony, Roy Li is eagerly anticipating a new movement. In the coming year of 2024, he and his partner will welcome their first baby, marking a joyous and harmonious addition to the composition of his personal and professional journey. In the symphony of Roy Li's life, each note played, every lesson taught, and the imminent arrival of a new member compose a harmonious blend of expertise, passion, and the joys of impending parenthood.
